Again and again, exciting questions reach me about wheatgrass, wheatgrass juice, the avoidance of mold in wheatgrass cultivation, wheatgrass cultivation without soil and so on.
With this small wheatgrass I want to collect and answer the most frequently asked questions. The list of questions is constantly growing, which is why a regular look at this page is worthwhile.
If you also have a question, then put it at the bottom of the page with the help of the comment function or contact me – I’m glad!
Is that normal?
When you cut the wheatgrass fresh and squeeze it into a juice, it smells of freshly mown grass. Even a slightly sweet smell is noticeable. Personally, I do not find the smell unpleasant, but it does vary from person to person
Should that be so?
Yes, wheatgrass juice is sweetish in taste. This can take some getting used to, one thing or another, especially since you do not necessarily expect this taste with the smell. If you expose the wheat to some sunlight and then harvest it tastes even sweeter and milder. If you do not like it, you can, for example, throw an apple into the juicer – the combination tastes really delicious!
Wheatgrass mix without water
This question is really asked me often. That’s why I decided to make a video about it. I try to mix wheatgrass without the addition of liquids. On the one hand I try this with a commercial mixer, on the other hand with a high-performance mixer.
How much is normal?
The grass fibers are very strong and the pomace compacts during the pressing process. The cheap juicer made of low-quality plastic will not sustain this pressure in the long term and break down in the medium term. I’ve already destroyed two manual juice presses, which were supposedly designed specifically for pressing wheatgrass.
However, if you regularly use the juicer, you might consider buying a stainless steel juicer.
Which is the best?
To grow wheatgrass, you need untreated, organic seeds. This is very important, because only this is germinable. When treated wheat grains nothing grows. The germinable seeds are available on the internet or in health food stores. Also DM usually has a department where can find BIO wheatgrass seeds.
A second point is that the wheatgrass seeds also have to be intact.
Damaged wheat seeds do not germinate, but mold faster. And you want to avoid both. Make sure that the seed is of good quality. Here you can find more information to choose the right seed.
What do you grow wheatgrass with?
Under no circumstances should you buy treated and fertilizer mixed soil. It therefore makes sense to buy biological soil.
My favorite is clearly the coconut soil. It is simply extremely practical, handy and does not quite as much dirt as earth. Alternatively, you can go into the forest and use the soil from there for cultivation – it is usually very fertile.
If you do not give a damn about cultivating wheatgrass, then you can try to cultivate wheatgrass without soil – as a hydroponic culture, so to speak. This is super easy and requires little preparation.
How often can you harvest wheatgrass?
Wheatgrass can be harvested up to three times with appropriate quality . If you cut the wheat grass with a sharp pair of scissors and then treat it with care, it grows again.
However, with each harvest, it loses parts of its typical wheatgrass vitamins.
I would therefore recommend harvesting wheatgrass only once and then simply growing new ones.
What can I do against it?
Do you have the feeling that your wheatgrass just does not want to grow properly? In some places, the blade of grass already forms but in other places almost nothing happens? The reason your wheatgrass does not want to grow properly can be very different. I would like to tell you, from my own experience, common causes for this:
Too many seeds used: This problem is very common. If you grow your wheatgrass, then you have to make sure that you do not plant the seeds too densely. The seeds should not be on top of each other but one layer. That may seem a little less, but in this case, less is more. The seed needs space to develop. If you sow it too tight, it grows worse and irregular.
Do not allow to dry out: Especially at the beginning you should spray the seeds two to three times a day with water, otherwise the germination process will falter. It always takes a bit of experience to find a good middle ground here. If you overdo it with watering the plants, you end up with the next common mistake that is made.
Too frequent watering: Yes, too much water can damage and, above all, promote mold growth. If the grass has already formed good roots and the first green comes to light, I usually only pour once a day.
Too little light: If the wheatgrass is still in the germination phase, darkness is ideal. After that it needs light to grow and to produce the healthy chlorophyll. The best is a bright spot in the kitchen or conservatory. However, direct sunlight should be avoided, the grass can not do so well.
Too cold: Especially in winter, when you need the super nutrients most, it is often a bit cooler in the apartment. It should be 20 ° C, so that the wheatgrass can develop really well. If it is colder, it will be a little harder to grow.
When should one reap?
The best time is after about 10 days, when the grass is about 15 cm tall. At this stage, the wheatgrass has the most nutrients in it.
A little insider tip: if youexposethe grass to the sunlight for a whileand then harvest it, especially chlorophyll forms and the wheatgrass gets a sweeter and milder taste.

Which nutrients are included?
The wheat grass is one of the most nutritious foods in the whole world. In addition to the high content of chlorophyll – up to 70% (!) – it is full of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and trace elements. Here is a detailed list: Wheatgrass ingredients at a glance.
It contains a lot of zinc and iron, important vitamin B12 and protective antioxidants. It’s really an incredible superfood. If you would like to know which vitamins are in exactly what they do and what they do in the body, then maybe read the article about wheatgrass vitamins .
What can you do about it?
It often happens that the wheatgrass starts to mold. Usually, first a light white swimming mat is formed, which can later turn black. The uptake of these harmful mold spores is extremely dangerous not only for immunodeficiency but also for healthy people. So please be careful not to eat moldy wheatgrass ! In the article on how to avoid wheatgrass mold, I’ve put together a few tips to help you fight the mold or not even “breed” it.
How much ml per day?
Wheatgrass juice has a detoxifying effect. Therefore you should not drink too much at the beginning. 20 – 30 ml daily are enough. It is bestto takethe juice on an empty stomach. If you got used to the juice, you can also increase the amount. I have read of people with cancer that they drink 120 ml wheatgrass juice daily and more.
It also offers 4-8 week wheatgrass juice cures. Deep-frozen wheatgrass juice shots are ideal and time-saving. Here you can buy wheatgrass juice ready.
At what time of day?
The best time to drink wheatgrass juice is on an empty stomach in the morning. Thus, the nutrients get into the blood on the fastest way. Important here is a certain regularity. After all, a single strength training does not mean a Schwarzenegger body. That’s why you should take a wheat grass shot every morning . You already feel the positive effects after a few weeks!
How can you still eat wheatgrass (juice)?
Mixing or juicing, these are probably the two typical variants. But with wheatgrass and its juice you can do much more. Have you ever thought to turn this into a delicious wheatgrass smoothie ?
Wheatgrass, with its many nutrients, is not only suitable for oral intake. In detoxification and / or detoxification treatments, many use the power of wheatgrass and use it for a wheatgrass enema. Of course, this is not for everyone – but as you know, trying is about studying!
Instead of letting the seeds grow into wheatgrass, the seedlings Rejuvelac, also known as ” bread drink “, can be produced. The lactic acid bacteria contained therein support the intestinal environment positively. How to make bread drink yourself , I have already published in a post.
How where what?
Growing ever- fresh wheatgrass yourself is not always easy, it takes a lot of time at the beginning and is not always possible for a variety of reasons.
Fortunately, there is also a very good alternative here: freshly squeezed and shock-frozen wheatgrass juice. Through the shock freezing all nutrients are best preserved and the product is thus preserved for several weeks.
For the purchased wheatgrass juice of Naturtrink, I have already written a report, where I show you where and how you can buy this wheatgrass juice, how it tastes and what it does. First of all: Naturtrink offers organic quality.
How long is it durable?
I recommend to drink the freshly squeezed juice immediately. Some nutrients are very “oxygen sensitive” and therefore do not last long. You have but one too many wheatgrass juice produced, can the juice too – as possible airtight packaged – store one or two days in the refrigerator. Another option is to freeze the wheatgrass juice directly. In this condition, at least -18 ° C, the juice keeps around a year!
Should that be so?
If you wheatgrass to squeezed juice, then creates quite a bit of foam. This may be surprising, but it is neither bad nor tragic nor abnormal. Even when mixing forms this foam. The whole looks then about this:
